Jordan Mahoney is an Outstanding Plumbing & Heating Apprentice

This time last year Jordan Mahoney was a 16 old pupil, studying at St Gregory’s High School, and revising for his GCSE exams. What a difference a year makes!

You will remember that Jordan secured an apprenticeship with Ashley & McDonough Ltd – our heating contractor. Jordan wanted to follow in his Grandad’s footsteps, as he was also a plumber. So, after a year of hard work Jordan is about to complete his first year of a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heatingat Warrington & Vale Royal College.

Jordan attends college 1 day per week, and spends the other 4 days receiving training in heating and plumbing installations in domestic properties working with senior engineers from Ashley & McDonough Ltd.

We caught up with Jordan on–site, at a new build development where he is working alongside Senior Engineer – Phil McLaren, installing whole heating systems and plumbing in bathrooms and kitchens to domestic homes.

When asked about how the Apprenticeship was going Jordan said “It’s amazing – I love being out on-site, and even though it’s hard work, I am learning so much, and my confidence grows each day. Under Phil’s guidance, I have been fitting pipework, hanging radiators and installing boilers, showers and sinks.  The topics that I have covered in College, including Gas Regulations, Health and Safety and the practical aspects of fitting pipework has helped me in understanding the importance of carrying out works to a very high standard. Earlier in the year, I was working with Servicing Engineers, servicing boilers, and checking smoke alarms in WHA homes. It makes it so special, and dauting, when you are working in your neighbours homes.”

Operations Manager for Ashley & McDonough – Colin Butterworth said “Our engineers are our greatest asset, and so it is important that we recruit and train the very best. Jordan has been very motivated from the beginning, he is showing real potential, and I am sure that he complete his apprenticeship with flying colours, and become an excellent Gas Safe Engineer that we can all rely on and be proud of.”

Mark Myers, Warrington Housing Association said “I am delighted to see our gas service contractor is embracing a culture of promoting apprenticeships”
